Resources for Your School — Trained Interventionists

Volunteer Tutor Program
Trained RAI volunteers can provide critical Tier 2 and Tier 3 intervention support in your school.

 Elementary Intervention
Reading ASSIST® Institute provides free, volunteer tutoring in partner elementary schools throughout Delaware and selected locations in Pennsylvania. This program targets struggling readers in grades one through three. Volunteers receive extensive training in RAI’s research-based reading intervention program and tutor children identified by school personnel as at risk for reading failure. Parental permission is required for a student’s participation.

Trained Reading ASSIST staff screen student’s skills to determine the suitability of the RAI intervention for each child. Students are pulled out of the classroom during the school day for one-on-one or small group tutoring by a team of volunteers. The Volunteer Tutoring Program is provided at no charge to the school district, school, parents or volunteer.

Kindergarten Intervention
School personnel recommend kindergarten students who need additional help with early literacy skills. Once parental permission is obtained, Reading ASSIST staff screen student’s skills to determine the suitability of the RAI Kindergarten Intervention for each child.

Trained volunteer tutors work as a team to provide targeted early literacy instruction to small groups of kindergarten students during the school day. The Kindergarten Intervention tutoring is provided at no charge to the school district, school, parents or volunteer.

Fee-Based School Tutoring
RAI-trained tutors can help you meet your intervention needs.

RAI tutors are available to schools and districts requiring specialized tutoring for individual students or small groups. Our Orton Gillingham-based intervention program provides an explicit, structured, sequential and cumulative approach to both reading and spelling. This is a very powerful process that is proven to produce results. Multisensory structured language lessons activate the visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile pathways through simultaneous engagement to support mastery of sound symbol correspondence and decoding skills. All instruction provided through RAI tutoring programs reflect best practices as aligned with scientifically based reading research.

Our tutors are expertly trained and certified through a process that ensures a high standard of knowledge, competency, and ability. RAI’s policy requiring ongoing professional development maintains this high standard.

RAI provides the following reports to schools:
• Weekly report outlining skills introduced
• Tutor observations of student response to instruction
• Results of screenings using nationally recognized progress monitoring tool

Our Tutor Service Program Coordinator will be happy to answer any questions you might have as well as to assist you with the registration process. Please call:
