For Parents:

Nothing can be more heartbreaking to a parent than watching a child with a learning difference struggle with school.  You are not alone.  Scientific research tells us that as many as 20 percent of the children in today's classroom are at risk for reading failure.

Reading ASSIST® Institute provides a research-based, phonetic, multisensory approach to reading instruction.  It is the type of program recommended by the National Reading Panel and the International Dyslexia Association for working with children who struggle to read.  If your child has a reading disability, we can help!

How can RAI help your child?

RAI provides free, volunteer tutoring in many area elementary schools through its Volunteer Tutor Program.  Contact us to find out about starting a volunteer team in your child's school.

RAI can provide private tutoring referral through our Fee Based Tutoring.

How does RAI support parents?

Reading ASSIST® sponsors speakers, tutorial demo's, book reviews, etc. that address issues of common concerns for parents, teachers and volunteers. Volunteers, plus parents are welcome and encouraged to take our classes.  An informed and involved parent is valuable to each child's development.

RAI maintains an extensive lending library of books, tapes and videos that are available to parents.  Check out samples from our library.

Read what parents are saying about Reading ASSIST®Institute:

"When my daughter learned to read, it changed her whole life, the way she thought about herself.  She became more confident in herself as a learner overall, not just in reading.  Last year she received the highest grade in reading in the entire 7th grade at Skyline Middle School on the DSTP (Delaware State Testing Program)."  Darlene Tulloch

"My son is a new person.  He can read.  He has confidence he didn't have before.  He is a happier little man."  Tina Courtney

"I couldn't be more pleased.   His tutors were kind, fun and very knowledgeable.  I am SO very happy and grateful that Ken could take part in this program."  Alice Conlin

"My daughter grew to love to read and to love each one of you (her tutors) over the past three years.  She is so very proud of her gold medal.  I really do appreciate the hard work and time that the three of you put into her tutoring session. All three of you went way above and beyond with your kindness to her and all of the special gifts you gave her.  Jessica truly enjoyed learning to read with each of you."  Missy LaMonaca

"At the end of second grade, it was a struggle to get Aidan to open a book.  Now, I have to fight with him to close the book."  Jodie Cunniffe

Reading ASSIST® Institute provides free, volunteer tutoring in many elementary schools throughout Delaware and selected locations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.  At these sites, school personnel recommend students who are struggling readers. Reading ASSIST® testers assess the student’s skills to determine the suitability of the RAI program for each child. If appropriate, students are pulled out of the classroom for one-on-one or small group tutoring.

As a parent you can mention our website to your school administrator, invite a Reading ASSIST® speaker to a parents meeting to recruit volunteer tutors (insert link to speakers bureau), or visit the volunteer section of this website to learn about becoming a volunteer tutor yourself.
