Volunteers — Elizabeth“Betty” Blatz Kane

RAI mourns the loss of our friend and supporter, Betty Kane, who passed away on October 29. Most of us at RAI know Betty as one of the original "kitchen table" tutors who studied with Ginger Biasotto in the early days, even before RAI was a formal organization. Betty was one of RAI’s first volunteer tutors, taking her knowledge of reading into area partner schools to work with children at risk for reading failure. She has donated a great deal of time, energy and dedication to RAI and its Volunteer Tutor Program over the years. She was also a member of RAI's first Board of Directors and treasurer of the Board for many years. In recognition of her untiring service, RAI established an award, The Betty Kane Award, in her honor in 2000. This award is presented annually to RAI’s most outstanding volunteer or group of volunteers. These are people who have demonstrated “extraordinary volunteer service” to RAI, in the true unselfish spirit of Betty Kane. She has been an inspiration to many of us personally and to our organization. We are honored to have been her friends and feel her loss deeply.
Betty’s family has suggested donations to RAI as a memorial to her and her commitment to RAI. Please follow the donate now button at the top of the page to donate.
